President Maduro affirmed that “Venezuela will continue to follow the democratic, independent and socialist path”.

“I thank the peoples and governments of the world who have spoken out against the attack that aimed to end my life,” said the president of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro on his Twitter account Sunday morning.

On August 4, a failed attempt was made when the president offered a speech at the central Bolivar Avenue in Caracas (capital) to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB).At the same time, he affirmed that “Venezuela will continue to follow the democratic, independent and socialist path”.

The president was unhurt from the assassination attempt, although seven security personnel were injured. Two drones loaded with explosives were destroyed by the military, while the bodyguards immediately protected the president.

The Public Ministry has already appointed three national prosecutors to clarify the facts and determine both the material and intellectual authors.

The fact generated an international repudiation, both from governments of the world and from social, political and institutional organizations that expressed their solidarity with the Venezuelan president and people.

Bolivia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Turkey, Russia and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) were some of the governments and organizations that condemned the event. Political leaders like Rafael Correa and Piedad Córdaba also did it./teleSUR
